An event looking at the career of the LCC and GLC architect

Philip Bottomley was one of 600 architects working at what was once the world's largest architectural practice, the London County Council. At the LCC he worked under Colin Lucas, leading a team that included Martin Richardson, to design landmark towers (acclaimed by Kenzo Tange and Richard Rogers) in Southwark, Lambeth, and Wandsworth. Less well known is his low rise housing built around these towers. After this work he went on to develop ideas for an (unbuilt) housing estate in Kidbrooke using large panel system components. His final significant work in London was as part of the team masterminding the Greater London Council’s Woolwich-Erith new town project that was to become Thamesmead.
